Softball: Barrington stays perfect in MSLWest

The battle between undefeated Mid-Suburban West softball teams Conant and Barrington was in doubt most of the way on Wednesday at the Fields of Dreams.

But the Fillies, who were trailing 2-1, put a dent into the suspense by scoring 6 times in the bottom of the sixth inning and posted a 7-2 triumph over the Cougars.

The Fillies (13-1, 5-0) went ahead for good at 3-2 when Kendall Peterson scored on a wild pitch. Carly Kordich followed with a bases-loaded walk to make it 4-2 before Rachel Krzysko belted a 3-run double for the game's final runs.

Tori Meyer worked the final three inning in relief of Catherine McMahon. Meyer (3-0) struck out three, did not walk a batter and did not give up a run to earn the win.

Krzysko ended up 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Other top offensive performers for the Fillies were Kordich 1-for-3, RBI), Peterson (1-for-3, RBI), Haley Luczak (1-for-1, 2 walks) and Leyden Atlas (RBI).

Conant (5-3, 3-1) was led by Winona State-bound Makenna McCarthy (4-for-4) while Sydney Correa added a double. Cougars pitcher Jill Gadomski struck out five in 5⅔ innings.

Hersey 22, Prospect 2 (5 inn.): Katie Wingerter belted 3 home runs (11 for the season), including a grand slam as Hersey improved to 8-3 and 3-2 in the MSL East. Prospect is 4-5 and 1-4

Other top hitters for visiting Hersey were Maddie Flynn (2-for-3), Remy Gerew (2-for-5, double), Jodie Hermann (2-for-5), Sofia Cano (3-for-3), Graff (3-for-6), Wingerter (3-for-5), Jackie Bednar (4-for-5, home run) and Brianna Luciano (5-for-5, double), who improved to 6-3 as the winning pitcher (2 hits in 2 innings). Sarah Bailitz worked the final 3 innings, striking out three.

Elk Grove 12, Buffalo Grove 1 (5 inn.): Senior Kylie Thomsen threw a 3-hitter with 5 strikeouts and also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, double and 4 RBI as the visiting Grenadiers improved to 10-4 and 2-3 in the MSL East.

Other multiple hitters for the Grens were Jessica Kearns (2-for-3), Katia Pendowski (2-for-4, double, 3 RBI) and Sabra Morton (2-for-3, 2 RBI). Teammate Keeley Cronin also doubled and Amy Pietruszynski had a RBI.

Bailey Williams (RB), Katie Fontanetta and Olivia Morini had the hits for host BG (8-8, 2-3).

Fremd 14, Hoffman Estates 1 (5 inn.): Fremd junior catcher Lexi D'Ambrosio went 3-for-3 with a triple and double as Fremd raised its record to 8-3 and 4-1 in the MSL West, one game behind leader Barrington (5-0).

Jess Mazur belted a homer for Fremd while scoring 3 runs with 2 RBI. Reagan Schneider went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI while Grace Stevens was 1-for-2 with 2 RBI and 2 runs. Bella Wojick added a double for the Vikings.

Hannah Ban (2-1) earned the win with 2 strikeouts and 6 hits in five innings against the host Hawks (2-8, 1-3).

Rolling Meadows 4, Wheeling 2: Rolling Meadows scored 3 runs in the top of third and pitcher Lydia Schultz (5-6) made them stand up with a 6-hitter and 11 strikeouts in the MSL East contest.

Her counterpart, freshman Emmie LaCaeyse, gave up 8 hits and struck out five.

Amanda Elkins (3-for-4, 2 runs, double, RBI) and Elizabeth Elkins (2-for-3, RBI) led the offense for visiting Meadows (6-8, 1-2) while Becky McAtee went 2-for-3 for Wheeling (3-8, 0-5)

New Trier 16, Maine West 4: Host Maine West (4-7) was led on offense by Grace Feldkamp (3-for-4, double, 2 RBI) and Amanda Byrne (3-for-3, 1 run). Katelyn Aragon added a RBI for the Warriors in the CSL crossover. West pitcher Alison Eby struck out five.
