Marty Maciaszek

Staff Writer

Marty Maciaszek has been covering high school sports in a full-time capacity for the Daily Herald since 1995 and has been responsible for coordinating coverage in our Cook County bureau since 2000. His primary beats are football, boys basketball, baseball and badminton, but he has covered all sports and also contributes to our college and pro sports coverage.

Maciaszek was a freelance sports writer for the Daily Herald for three years prior before joining the sports staff full-time. He also spent a year as a freelancer with the Chicago Tribune and worked part-time for two-plus years covering sports at the Peoria Journal Star. He has received media honors from the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association and the Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Maciaszek also has a "Getting Prepped" blog with the Daily Herald and has been responsible for providing Friday night football and basketball reports on WBBM-AM radio.

Although he excels as a writer, one of his priorities as an editor has been to develop a solid group of freelance writers to provide balanced and quality coverage in all sports for all schools in the Cook County area.

Maciaszek graduated from Bradley University in Peoria with a degree in journalism and graduated from York High School in Elmhurst. Born on Chicago's West Side, he now lives in McHenry with his wife, son and twin daughters.
