Larissa Chinwah is an Australian citizen who has spent the better part of the last 12 years complaining about Midwest winters. Larissa was first introduced to Daily Herald readers as a summer intern in the newspaper's Lake County bureau, covering Hawthorn Woods, Island Lake and Wauconda.

Since becoming a full-time staff writer in June 2006, Larissa has covered the village of Carpentersville, and more recently East Dundee, West Dundee and Hampshire. Her beat also includes related townships, park districts and library districts. Before taking on responsibilities in East Dundee, West Dundee and Hampshire, she covered news in Sleepy Hollow, Algonquin and Lake in the Hills.

She has appeared on ABC 7 and WBBM-780 radio to discuss various stories. Larissa earned a bachelor's degree in print and broadcast journalism from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich., where she also played varsity tennis for the Broncos.

In graduate school, she served as the assistant women's tennis coach for the Ball State University Cardinals while completing courses in journalism and public relations. She has officially hung up her tennis racquet and has taken to running to stay in shape.
