Josh Stockinger covers the DuPage County judicial system. He began reporting on Kane County legal affairs in 2008 after working for two years as the Daily Herald's St. Charles-area reporter.

A native of Southern Illinois, Stockinger entered journalism at age 18 as a reporter for the weekly hometown newspaper, the Bridgeport Leader, in downstate Lawrence County. He majored in mass communications and minored in philosophy at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Throughout college, Josh wrote for the campus newspaper, the Alestle, and freelanced for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. In 2005, he joined The Telegraph in Alton, covering local schools and, later, county government. Josh moved to Lombard in early 2006 and worked at the Northwest Herald covering local news until he was hired by the Daily Herald later that year.

In 2008, he received Paddock Publication's Robert Y. Paddock Sr. Community Service Award for his volunteer work as a mentor with Big Brothers, Big Sisters. He was one of two reporters to share a first-place award for spot news in a 2005 Illinois Associated Press contest.

Outside of work, Josh is an avid record collector, musician and home-recording artist. Among other instruments, he plays guitar, bass, drums and ukulele, though not all at once.
