Jameel Naqvi

Jameel Naqvi is a staff writer who covers schools and communities in the northern Fox Valley, primarily Elgin Area School District U-46, Elgin Community College and Central Unit District 301.

He has worked in the Daily Herald's Elgin bureau since joining the staff in 2006. Before he worked for the Daily Herald, Naqvi completed an internship at Heritage Newspapers in southeast Michigan.

Naqvi has won awards for his collaborative efforts on a series of articles explaining the ins and outs of Illinois school funding and coverage of the tragic 2008 shooting at Northern Illinois University.

Naqvi attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he majored in English and served as an associate news editor for the Michigan Daily, a student-run newspaper.

A native of southeast Michigan, he has lived in the Chicago area since 2006 and resided in suburban Cook County for three years.

In his spare time, Naqvi enjoys reading, listening to music and spending time with his neice and nephew.
