Elisabeth Mistretta joined the Daily Herald in 2000, and currently serves as a staff writer in the DuPage County bureau and as an assistant weekend editor. She primarily covers breaking news and feature stories in Bloomingdale, Lisle and Roselle, as well as Addison, Bensenville, Itasca and Wood Dale.

Mistretta was part of a team that won a 2010 Lisagor Award for covering breaking news of fugitive Robert Maday, which led police on a 48 hour manhunt throughout the Chicago area. She also has appeared on ABC 7 Chicago to highlight her stories, including a piece on a local man who helped resettle hundreds of Iraqi refugees in the U.S.

In 2003, her work was published in the book "That Takes Ovaries: Bold Women and their Brazen Acts." After the book inspired a nonprofit organization that helps abused women throughout the world, Mistretta hosted open mic events with professional authors throughout Chicago that raised funds for the cause. Mistretta sits on the alumni board of directors for the Loyola University John Felice Rome Center, where she studied Italian language, art and history. She graduated from Loyola University Chicago and was selected for the Medill School of Journalism's Academy for Future Journalists at Northwestern University.
