Transformer catches fire in Long Grove

A pole-mounted transformer caught fire in Long Grove Wednesday morning, according to the Long Grove Fire Protection District.

At 11:44 a.m., firefighters responded to reports of a transformer fire on the 200 block of Robert Parker Coffin Road.

The district was first notified of a power outage in the area, but then began to receive calls about the pole catching fire, authorities said.

According to authorities, flames and smoke were visible from the transformer upon arrival.

Firefighters had to wait for ComEd officials to depower the transformer before putting out the fire, authorities said.

The fire was put under control within minutes, but there was still damage to the pole and transformer.

Authorities said ComEd remained on-scene to repair the transformer, and brought a back-up generator for surrounding businesses.

An investigation into the fire is still ongoing.
