Driver rescued from vehicle submerged in Naperville pond

Naperville fire crews rescued the driver of a car submerged in a pond Monday morning on the north side of the city, officials said.

Firefighters responded about 6:45 a.m. to the report of a vehicle in a body at water at Brookdale Road and Bond Street, according to a news release from the Naperville Fire Department. They immediately put on personal protective equipment, entered the water and found the driver, who was removed from the vehicle and treated by the on-scene medic unit.

The driver was taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville for further treatment. Police said the incident was caused by a medical issue.

A Facebook post from Naperville Professional Firefighters, Local 4302, said the rescue was completed before the vehicle filled with water.

The department's dive team searched the car and the pond, and found no additional victims, officials said. There were no firefighter injuries reported.

The Warrenville Fire Protection District and Naperville police assisted at the scene.
