Berman steps down as North Aurora village president

Dale Berman resigned Monday as North Aurora's village president because he now serves as a county board member.

The village board made Trustee Mark Gaffino acting village president for the remainder of Berman's term, which ends April 30. Gaffino is running unopposed in April for village president.

Berman was elected to a District 2 seat on the Kane County Board in November. He was sworn in last month.

Berman, who has lived in North Aurora for 58 years, first became involved in the village's government in 1966 when he joined the community development committee. He was elected trustee in 1977 and 1981, and then elected village president in 1985. He was elected again as a trustee in 2003, serving until he was elected village president again in 2009.

He also served for 10 years on the Fox Valley Park District board.

Gaffino has been a trustee since 2009. For much of that time, he has led the committee that plans the annual North Aurora Days festival. He also served as chairman of the government services committee.

"Luckily, Trustee Gaffino is waiting in the wings, so we have great continuity," Berman told the village board on Jan. 4, when he announced his departure.

"You left us in great shape, Dale," Gaffino responded.
