Mundelein man dies after rollover Antioch Township crash

A 57-year-old Mundelein man died and several others were injured after two-car rollover crash in Antioch Township Saturday evening, officials said.

First responders arrived to the crash on Route 173 just west of Route 45 shortly after 5:30 p.m. and found two cars with "extensive damage," according to Sgt. Chris Covelli of the Lake County Sheriff's Department.

Preliminary investigation shows a 1997 Chevy Blazer had just exited a nearby gas station and was heading westbound on Route 173 when the driver - a 59-year-old Mundelein man - attempted to make a U-turn and was struck by a westbound 1999 Lexus ES 300, Covelli said. The Blazer rolled, Covelli said, and deputies found the Blazer's passenger on the roadway when they arrived on scene. Good Samaritans were performing CPR on him, according to Covelli. Authorities are still determining whether he was ejected from the vehicle. He was later pronounced dead at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The driver of the Lexus, a 25-year-old man from Buffalo Grove, was uninjured, and the driver of the Blazer was taken to Advocate Condell with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Department Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
