Driver rescued from car fire after crash into Naperville home

A driver was hospitalized after being rescued from a vehicle that caught fire after it ran off the road and crashed into a home in Naperville Saturday afternoon, officials said.

Authorities responded to the 800 block of Edgewater Drive at about 3:23 p.m. after reports of an unresponsive person trapped in a vehicle that caught fire next to the back door of the home, according to a news release from the Naperville Fire Department.

A police officer and bystander were able to break the window with the officer's baton and remove the person from the vehicle, according to the release.

Fire crews extinguished the fire around the vehicle within a few minutes of arriving on the scene and used a foam agent to extinguish the burning gasoline leaking from it.

The driver of the vehicle was stable and taken to Edward Hospital for evaluation, according to the release.

Nobody was inside the home during the incident, and no residents or firefighters were injured, the release said. The home was declared habitable after inspection.

It's unclear what caused the driver to veer off the road.
