Wheeling Plan Commission to discuss recreational pot Thursday

Wheeling's Plan Commission will meet Thursday to discuss what restrictions should be placed on recreational marijuana sellers should the village board allow such businesses to operate in town when it becomes legal Jan. 1.

The panel meets at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 7, in the board room of village hall, 2 Community Blvd.

Under state law authorizing adults to possess small amounts of marijuana for recreational use starting next year, municipalities can ban businesses that sell pot and related products, or restrict how many of those businesses operate in town and where they can be located.

Wheeling officials have indicated they're likely to allow such businesses, and asked the plan commission to draft recommendations for what restrictions should be put in place.

The village board will make the final decision after receiving the planning panel's recommendations.
