Prosecutors: DUI arrest of St. Charles man turns up cache of drugs

A 26-year-old St. Charles man faces numerous felony drug charges after a DUI arrest in Elburn early Wednesday turned up Ecstasy, Ketamine, cocaine and Xanax pills, according to Kane County prosecutors.

Police also found a digital scale with cocaine residue on it and 200 plastic bags of various sizes in the vehicle driven by Troy P. Collins, of the 40W100 block of James Michener Drive, prosecutors said.

Police pulled Collins over at about 2 a.m. on Route 38 for speeding, authorities said. He later was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and DUI with a blood-alcohol concentration of .08 or more. His BAC registered .170, according to prosecutors.

A search of his vehicle turned up more than eight grams of Ecstasy; 16 grams of Ketamine; two grams of cocaine; 16 grams of psilocybin mushrooms; 84 two-miligram Xanax pills; and less than a gram of LSD, prosecutors say.

In addition to the DUI charges, Collins is charged with six counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and six counts of possession of a controlled substance. All of those 12 charges are felonies.

Collins is being held at the Kane County jail on $125,000 bail, meaning he must post $12,500 to be released while the case is pending.

He is next due in court Oct. 24 and faces a sentence ranging from four to 15 years if convicted of all charges. According to court records, Collins does not have previous felony arrests in Kane County.
