Legislators picking corporate winners topic of Arlington Heights forum

Americans for Prosperity-Illinois is co-hosting an "Unrig the Economy" event with the Heartland Institute in Arlington Heights from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19.

The event is a part of a multiyear, multimillion-dollar effort to create a stronger economy by leveling the playing field for all, according to a news release promoting the event. The policy discussion will focus on what AFP calls examples of corporate welfare.

"Too often, economic success is decided by political favoritism and who you know. Instead of rigging our economy by picking winners and losers, lawmakers should work to create an environment where everyone is treated fairly and empowered to compete on a level playing field," said Brian Costin, deputy state director for AFP. "This event focuses on how we can start to create an economic culture where people succeed based on the value they create - not their ability to hire the best lobbyists."

The event will be held at Heartland Institute headquarters, 3939 N. Wilke Road.
