Paddle boaters rescued from Fox River pier in St. Charles

An adult and two children were rescued Monday after seeking shelter from a storm while paddle boating on the Fox River in St. Charles, fire officials said.

Crews responded about 4:41 p.m. to reports of people trapped underneath the railroad trestle bridge near the Salerno's on the Fox restaurant, 320 N. Second St., according to the St. Charles Fire Department. The adult and children, all of whom were wearing flotation devices, were found standing on a pier under the bridge next to a paddle boat.

Rescuers launched a boat from Boy Scout Island and brought the three people to shore at Pottawatomie Park, officials said. They were examined by paramedics at the scene and released.

The paddle boat was towed back to the rental location at Pottawatomie Park.
