Lanes open again on westbound I-90 after vehicle fire

A vehicle fire on westbound Interstate 90 near Golf Road had two lanes shut down during the rush hour commute Friday evening, according to a tweet from the Illinois Tollway.

A utility truck already had caught fire about 4:50 p.m. when a tow-truck driver spotted it in his rearview mirror and pulled over, according to officials at the Elk Grove Township Fire Protection District.

The tow truck driver tried using an extinguisher on the flames and called 911.

Elk Grove Township and Arlington Heights firefighters were able to put out the fire, which is under investigation, officials said. Nobody was injured.
