DuPage prosecutors reviewing fatal Naperville crash

DuPage County prosecutors say they are investigating a fatal crash involving a North Central College van that left a 71-year-old Naperville woman dead.

Naperville police said they responded at 10:38 a.m. Feb. 3 to the area of West Street and Aurora Avenue for a report of a collision between a red 2016 Chevrolet van registered to the college and a green 2004 Subaru sedan.

The driver of the van, Princess Adams, 20, of Country Club Hills, was traveling west on Aurora Avenue at West Street and failed to stop for the red light, striking the driver's side of the Subaru as it proceeded southbound through the intersection, authorities said. The Subaru was driven by Ellen Wenzel, 71.

Naperville police Cmdr. Mike Son said Wenzel was conscious and alert at the scene but was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Adams was uninjured.

Adams received a $120 ticket at the scene for disobeying a traffic control signal, police said. Her court date is scheduled for March 20.

North Central College officials did not respond to requests for comment via telephone or email Thursday or Friday.
