Fire leaves Naperville home uninhabitable

A family of five was able to safely escape their Naperville home after it caught fire Thursday, officials said.

A neighbor first called 911 to report a house on fire on the 1300 block of Middleburg Road, according to the Naperville Fire Department, and crews arrived to find heavy flames coming from the garage of the two-story single family home.

Two adults and three children who lived in the house were able to evacuate before responders arrived; the family cat was still inside and was later rescued by firefighters, who extinguished the blaze within about 15 minutes, officials said.

No injuries were reported, and the Naperville Fire Investigation Team determined the fire started accidentally. The home was determined to be uninhabitable due to smoke damage.
