Waukegan man faces felony theft charges in Antioch

A 19-year-old Waukegan man was charged with felony retail theft after police say he stole merchandise from several stores in Antioch, police said.

Police said they apprehended Ramon Morales, 19, outside a church across the street from a Walmart at 475 Route 173. Morales initially told officers he had parked his car outside the church while out for a jog, but police said they recognized Morales from a previous theft from the Walmart and determined he had planned to steal from the store again.

While questioning Morales, police said they learned he had committed similar thefts in several nearby communities, including Vernon Hills, Waukegan, Gurnee and Round Lake Beach.

According to police, Morales allegedly sold much of the stolen property online, bringing in as much as $5,000.

Morales was charged with felony retail theft, a class 3 felony, and misdemeanor attempted retail theft, police said. He is currently being held at the Lake County jail on a $5,000 bond and is due in court August 21, according to police.
