Harmony Park hits right notes with Naperville council
Plans for a musical Harmony Park near Naperville's downtown Riverwalk have won city council approval.
The park, to be built at the southeast corner of Rotary Hill by Aurora Avenue, will feature four outdoor percussion instruments, including contrabass chimes, swirl chimes, an imbarimba xylophone and a melody xylophone that visitors can play.
The Rotary Club of Naperville and Century Walk Corp. are collaborating on the $55,000 park, with construction expected to begin next month and be completed by the end of August, club President John Norman said.
The Rotary Club is purchasing the instruments from a Colorado-based company called Freenotes.
This will mark the 49th location in Naperville where Century Walk has placed outdoor public art.
Norman said the park will benefit people of all ages and be especially therapeutic for those with special needs.
"I think it's going to bring an element that allows people of all ages, all abilities, all physicalities to come together, just as the name implicates, in harmony," Norman said. "There are no wrong notes played, everything played on the instruments has a pleasing sound."
