Three cited for selling tobacco products to underage people in Lake County

Three employees of Lake County stores that sell tobacco have been issued violations for selling products to underage people, authorities said in a news release Wednesday.

Ramesh Barot, 64, who works at the Country Corner in the 1700 block of Diamond Lake Road in Libertyville Township, was issued an ordinance violation for selling a tobacco product to a person under the age of 21, according to the news release.

Singh Radwinder, 27, who works at the Tobacco Outlet, and Muhammed Yaseen, 58, who works at the Wadsworth Shell Station, were each issued state-statute violations for selling tobacco products to people under the age of 18. Both businesses are in the 41000 block of Route 41 in Wadsworth, authorities said.

The Lake County sheriff's office concluded its second round of 2018 tobacco compliance checks in May, authorities said in the release. In all, 68 establishments were tested.

The compliance checks are intended to ensure businesses vending tobacco are not selling to anyone under the age of 18, and those falling under the jurisdiction of Lake County ordinances are not selling to anyone under the age of 21.
