Vernon Hills fire leaves apartment building uninhabitable, none injured

A fire Tuesday night in Vernon Hills left an apartment building uninhabitable, but no one was injured, officials say.

Countryside Fire Protection District firefighters responded to the fire at the 200 block of Court of Shorewood about 8 p.m., according to a news release.

Firefighters entered the six-unit building and found the fire in and around a third-floor laundry room. All of the residents evacuated the building safely, and firefighters extinguished the blaze, officials said.

The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damage.

The American Red Cross helped displaced residents, officials said.
