Naperville cop saves newborn deer

A Naperville police officer saved a newborn deer after its mother was killed by a car on Memorial Day.

Officer Matt Minuth responded to the scene where the doe delivered the fawn, which was born with a broken leg, according to a department Facebook post. Minuth protected the fawn, wrapping her in a towel and keeping her in his squad car until Animal Control was able to respond.

The fawn was taken to the Oaken Acres Wildlife Center, a rehabilitation center in Sycamore.

The department reported that the fawn is doing well. With her cast on, she was able to stand for her afternoon bottle on Tuesday.

"Fawn season" is coming, as fawns typically are born around June. It is best to leave them alone if you seen them curled up on the ground, authorities say. Additionally, drivers should slow down if they see a deer crossing the road and should expect more to be nearby because does typically travel together.
