Aurora police arrest 3 after responding to drug call

Aurora police said two Aurora men and a Geneva woman were arrested on drug charges after officers responded to a call about suspected drug activity between occupants of two cars Wednesday afternoon.

Police said they found an unoccupied gray Hyundai Accent near Savannah and Arbor drives that matched the description of one of the vehicles. They then saw a white Chevrolet Monte Carlo that matched the description of the other car coming toward them.

An officer ordered the car to stop, which it did not, police said, and they followed the Chevrolet in their squad car to the driver's house in the 2900 block of Savannah.

Police said the driver, Guadalupe A. Magana, 21, and passenger Joshua D. Martinez, 20, ran from the car and were caught after a short chase. Two women stayed in the car.

Officers found 160 grams of marijuana and items commonly used in dealing narcotics, police said. Police said they also found a handgun and Xanax pills they could tie to Martinez, of the 1500 block of Golden Oaks Drive.

Cocaine was found on Natalie M. Erickson, 21, of the 39W100 block of Platt Court, police said.

Martinez was charged with armed violence, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.

The armed violence charge is a felony that could result in enhanced prison time upon conviction.

Magana was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful manufacture or delivery of cannabis. He was also charged with three misdemeanors - not having a valid registration, not having insurance and driving on a suspended license.

Erickson, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Police said Martinez, Erickson and the second woman, a 19-year-old from Elburn, had occupied the Hyundai.

The 19-year-old was released without being charged.
