Homeless man found dead in downtown Arlington Heights

Police are conducting a death investigation after the body of a 65-year-old homeless man was found Thursday afternoon in downtown Arlington Heights.

Police received a 911 call about 3:30 p.m. from someone who saw the unresponsive man lying in a landscaped area near the intersection of Arlington Heights Road and Northwest Highway, according to Deputy Police Chief Nick Pecora.

The body was taken to the Cook County medical examiner's office, where an official cause of death will be determined, though police said the manner of death appears to be natural. His identity was not immediately released, pending the notification of next of kin.

“There appears to be no foul play at this particular juncture,” Pecora said.

Police also said there is no risk of danger to the community.

The police put up yellow tape around the landscaped triangle park that includes a village sign and message board. There were a number of curious onlookers late Thursday afternoon in the area, home to a number of shops and the train station. Traffic was still flowing on the two major thoroughfares.
