District 205 seeking residents' opinions on facilities

In 2015 Elmhurst Unit District 205 launched a major community engagement effort called Focus 205, which you can learn about online at focus205.org. This multiyear effort will lead to an Operational Plan that will guide future resource allocation and planning decisions to ensure that all District 205 graduates are college-, career- and life-ready when they leave our system.

The district is embarking upon a critical final phase that will culminate in the development of a Master Facilities Plan. Details on the plan and the process are available online at www.elmhurst205.org/MasterFacilityPlan.

The current draft concepts driving the Master Facilities Plan address aging infrastructure, safety and security, all-day kindergarten, balanced class sizes, and future-ready learning.

The "Future-Focused" Phase II began with the formation of a Community Advisory Team, which met for the first time March 30 and again April 30. This phase kicked in to high gear this past week with listening sessions offered for our most highly impacted schools - Edison, Field and Lincoln. Informational sessions are also planned for the remaining eight elementary and middle schools. Parents of Madison Early Childhood students are urged to attend the meeting of their child's future elementary school. Dates and times can be found on the District 205 website, at elmhurst205.org.

Large-group community meetings are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at York High School, 355 St. Charles Road, Elmhurst; at 7 p.m. Monday, May 14, at Churchville Middle School, 155 Victory Parkway, Elmhurst; 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at Bryan Middle School, 111 W. Butterfield Road, Elmhurst; and at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at Sandburg Middle School, 345 E. St. Charles Road, Elmhurst.

Each session will provide the same content; please mark your calendar for the date that best suits you and plan to join the conversation. We want to hear from you, our stakeholders.

On behalf of District 205, I enthusiastically invite all residents to participate in these important conversations.

P.S.: Please look for the new District 205 annual report coming soon to your mailbox.
