Pancakes and ponies at equine rescue fundraiser in St. Charles

Small horses and big stacks of hot cakes came together Sunday as the St. Charles Moose Lodge hosted the 3rd annual Pancakes for Ponies fundraiser to benefit Casey's Safe Haven in Elburn.

Casey's Safe Haven is a nonprofit, holistic equine rescue dedicated to healing horses, ponies, donkeys and mules in need. The organization accepts equines from animal control facilities, pony ride facilities, horses being retired from lesson programs, police departments and racetracks.

The group also accepts healthy animals donated by owners who, for reasons beyond their control, can no longer provide care.

Visitors to the event ate breakfast, had an opportunity to learn more about Casey's rescue and meet two of its rescue ponies, Cece and Fiona.

There also were raffle baskets, a "pick a pony" game, Casey's swag for sale and a 50/50 raffle with a minimum win of $1,000.
