Police: Aurora man fired at by paintball tracked down car, shot driver

An Aurora man has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a firearm in DuPage County after shooting an 18-year-old Naperville man, police said Saturday.

Malcom Wheeler, 25, of the 400 block of Belvidere Lane, has been charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm, both felonies, by the DuPage County state's attorney's office.

According to Aurora police, at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, a person riding by in a car fired a paintball at Wheeler as he walked his dog. Authorities said Wheeler then took a handgun out of his own car, searched for the other vehicle, and after finding it on the 600 block of Conservatory Lane fired a shot that grazed the driver's head. No one else in the vehicle was injured.

One of the other four men in the car drove the injured 18-year-old to a hospital. The wound is not life-threatening, authorities said.

Wheeler's next bond court date is set for Sunday. The police department said the investigation is ongoing.
