2 juveniles charged in home burglary near Itasca
Two juveniles from Chicago have been charged with residential burglary after breaking into a home near Itasca, DuPage County sheriff's deputies said Tuesday.
Authorities said they are continuing to investigate the possible involvement of an adult male, but no charges have been filed against him.
Deputies said they responded at 10 a.m. Saturday to a report of a residential burglary in progress near Rohlwing and Nordic roads. The victims told deputies they returned home to find someone had broken into their house.
Several neighbors reported seeing three people running through their yards and trying to hide. Deputies and police officers from Itasca quickly apprehended all three suspects without incident, authorities said.
Authorities said they believe the suspects traveled from Chicago to commit the crime.
DuPage State's Attorney Robert Berlin praised neighbors who called 911 "when they suspected something wasn't right in their neighborhood. This case confirms that with an alert citizenry and outstanding law enforcement, if someone even attempts to commit this type of crime in DuPage County, they will be caught, prosecuted and face significant penalties if found guilty."
