Domestic abuser gets 6 years for trying to contact victim
A man with a history of domestic abuse was sentenced to six years in prison for trying to contact a previous victim, officials said.
30-year-old Marshall A. Straughter of Oswego had been ordered not to contact the victim until 2025, but officials said Straughter called the victim's phone 31 times while he was in prison, according to a news release from the Kane County State's Attorney.
The order of protection was issued after Straughter received 36 months in prison for domestic battery in 2016. He has been convicted three times for felony domestic battery and twice for violating other restraining orders, the release said.
Officials said Straughter was eligible for enhanced sentencing because of his long criminal history. He will receive credit for the 143 days he served while in custody.
