2 charged in Aurora gas station robbery

Two men have been charged with aggravated robbery after a hold-up Wednesday at a gas station convenience store in Aurora, police said Thursday.

The men, Nicholas Poulopoulos, 25, of the 2600 block of Village Green Drive, Aurora, and Joshua D. Young, 19, of the 700 block of Farragut Avenue, Romeoville, worked in tandem to rob the BP Gas Station on the 2500 block of Ogden Avenue, authorities said Thursday.

Poulopoulos also is a suspect in two other recent robberies that occurred just blocks from each other on Ogden.

Police responded around 6:10 a.m. Wednesday to the gas station after a clerk was robbed at gunpoint by Poulopoulos, who escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash and ran to a waiting pickup truck being driven by Young, police said. Within minutes of the robbery, the pair were taken into custody by officers in the parking lot of the apartment complex where Poulopoulos lives.

The officers had received a tip that Poulopoulos may be involved in the robberies, police said, and immediately went to his address after the hold-up occurred. The officers said they recovered a plastic toy gun he was carrying.

Poulopoulos also is suspected of robbing Nancy's Pizza on the 2600 block of Ogden around 7:35 p.m. Tuesday. In that case, police said the suspect demanded money at gunpoint from an employee and then ran from the restaurant with the cash.

The other robbery occurred just after 3 p.m. Sunday at the Thorntons gas station on the 2800 block of Ogden. In that case, the suspect implied he had a weapon and demanded money from two clerks.

No charges have been filed in the other two robberies.

The only injury in any of the cases was to Poulopoulos, who hurt his shoulder when being taken into custody, police said. He was treated at an Aurora hospital on Wednesday morning and then released.

Both men are being held in the DuPage County jail.
