Who else wanted to be on Waubonsee college board? Sheriff, fire chief

Darien Police Chief Greg Thomas was not the only person in law-enforcement interested in filling a vacancy on the Waubonsee Community College board of trustees.

Kane County Sheriff Donald Kramer also applied, according to records released by the college in response to a Freedom of Information Act request by the Daily Herald.

Thomas and Kramer were among six men who applied to fill the vacancy created when Roger Harris resigned from the board in late January.

The board chose Thomas - a former Aurora police chief - March 19.

Kramer wrote in his application that his father, the late Kane County Sheriff George Kramer, brought him to visit the Sugar Grove campus when it was being built. Both Kramers received Waubonsee degrees - George in 1973, Donald in 1984.

Other applicants included retired Oswego District 308 teacher Kenneth Donart; Jeffrey Humm, who had served as a trustee in Sugar Grove and Elburn and who works for a Sugar Grove engineering firm founded by current WCC trustee James Michels (now retired); retiree Donald Lass; and Sugar Grove Fire Protection District Chief William Perkins.
