Kinzler defeats Orozco in GOP primary for 46th House District

Dr. Gordon "Jay" Kinzler of Glendale Heights defeated police detective Roger Orozco of Carol Stream in the GOP primary in the DuPage County-based 46th Illinois House District.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting early Wednesday morning, Kinzler had 3,713 votes, or 80 percent, unofficial results show. Orozco, a Schiller Park police detective, had 953 votes.

A transplant surgeon, Kinzler previously held several positions with the Glen Ellyn Park District, including president, commissioner and treasurer.

Kinzler campaigned on repealing the 32-percent state income tax increase, capping property taxes and passing term limits for the governor and members of the state legislature.

He also wants to fix public pensions by enrolling all new and recent employees in 401(k)-style plans and increasing the eligibility age, except for police officers and firefighters.

"Here in Illinois, we've had basically a one-party system," Kinzler said. "It's more of a dictatorship where one person decides how things are going to be run."

Kinzler will face incumbent Democrat Deborah O'Keefe Conroy in the November general election.

The 46th District includes all or parts of Addison, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Elmhurst, Glendale Heights, Oakbrook Terrace and Villa Park.
