Idstein coasts in 62nd District

Senior mortgage banker Ken Idstein on Tuesday easily defeated financial adviser Adam Solano for the Republican nomination in the 62nd House District in a race featuring Grayslake residents.

With all 62 precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Idstein outdistancing Solano 2,606 to 1,569 votes. The total does not include early voting ballots.

Idstein now will challenge Democratic incumbent Sam Yingling in November to represent the 62nd District, which includes all or parts of Grayslake, Hainesville, the Round Lake communities, Lake Villa, Gurnee, Wauconda, Wildwood and Gages Lake.

Idstein, who has been on the Grayslake planning and zoning commission for 12 years and is a Chamber of Commerce board member, touted his long list of endorsements from current and former local, state and federal officials. That support, he said, showed he would have the best chance to defeat Yingling.

Idstein supports rolling back the income tax increase, reforming workers' comp and eliminating "out of control spending" in Springfield.

Solano, past president of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors in Illinois and Chicago, ran on a track record of leadership. He knew he faced an uphill challenge and described himself as "the little ball in the spray paint can mixing it up."
