Dick Barr leads Republican primary for Lake County Board District 3

Dick Barr leads in the Republican primary for the Lake County Board's District 3 seat, according to the unofficial results Tuesday.

If his lead holds, Barr, a newcomer to Lake County Board politics will face Democrat Anthony McConnell in the November general election in the race to replace board member Tom Weber, a Lake Villa Republican.

With all 22 precincts reporting, Barr received 1,018 votes, and his opponent, James Creighton Mitchell Jr. collected 368 votes.

Those totals do not include votes cast early.

Weber, who is vying for a job in the Illinois statehouse, endorsed Barr, a 42-year-old real estate agent from Round Lake Beach.

Mitchell, a 74-year-old Lindenhurst resident, was twice appointed to the Lake County Board during the 1980s.

The 3rd District covers all of Lindenhurst and Round Lake Heights and sections of Lake Villa and Round Lake Beach.
