Challenger Weber wins Kane County Board District 13 primary

Challenger Steve Weber beat 12-year incumbent Phil Lewis in Tuesday's Republican primary for Kane County Board District 13.

Weber had 1,058 votes, or 56.5 percent of the total, and Lewis had 592 votes, or 31.6 percent, with all 17 precincts reporting, according to unofficial results.

Weber, 40, is a sales manager in the grocery/food business. Lewis, 69, is a professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Both live in St. Charles.

Weber called for eliminating waste and consolidating government functions to maintain the county's property tax freeze. He said he believes the county board should reduce its members from 24 to 18.

Weber supported a sunset clause to any toll collected on Longmeadow Parkway with an interest-generating maintenance fund to provide for future repairs.
