God helps us move from one season to the next in our life

"Everything is permissible for me- but not everything is beneficial."

- 1 Corinthians 6:12 (NIV)

As we approach spring, it causes me to think about the changing seasons in our lives.

Some things God allows for certain seasons in our lives. Maybe we enjoyed a friendship and gave a lot of our time and energy to that friend. But then we found different interests or responsibilities came into our lives, and that friendship was still good, but not to the degree of the time and energy we once put into it.

A simple example of that, is when we were single and had single friends, then we got married and had new responsibilities of a spouse and family. We needed to make room for some new friends who had things in common with us.

It was permissible to keep some of our single friends. There was nothing wrong with them, but because of our differing lifestyles, we couldn't spend the same amount of time hanging out with them as we once did. It was permissible to have them as friends but it didn't benefit us in the same way. We needed new friends with perspectives on marriage and children.

Or perhaps at one time, we may have embraced a certain activity. I was a thriving nurse manager. But when I started having health issues, I couldn't physically handle the amount of activity or the emotional stress that went along with the job. I had to reinvent how I used my nursing.

As a Christian author, speaker and life coach, I'm still able to impart much of my knowledge as a nurse and leader. My nursing is still permissible, but my old nursing jobs wouldn't be as beneficial for me anymore.

I have found sometimes when we go through seasons of change, we feel frustrated, perplexed, bored and even guilt-ridden due to the fact we don't understand why we're feeling the way we do. It's simply because we don't understand we are in a life transition and God is showing us what once worked well for us doesn't work the same way anymore.

As we grow and mature, God wants to bring something fresh and new into our lives. To become our best, oftentimes, God helps us move from one season to the next, as we put what was once permissible but no longer beneficial in proper perspective.
