Fire, vandalism at Behm Park in Fremont Township

Lake County sheriff's police are searching for one or more people who burned down a shed and vandalized other structures at Fremont Township's Behm Park Monday night.

Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said when officers arrived on the scene Tuesday morning, the shed, a ten-foot by ten-foot wooden structure, was significantly damaged from being lit on fire. Also damaged in the blaze was the athletic equipment stored inside, which was valued at more than $1,000.

The vandal or vandals also used the device that marks lines on athletic fields to paint all over a restroom structure and concession stand.

"They didn't mark anything in particular," Covelli said. "It was a mess, but they didn't make any special symbols or words or designs."

Covelli said investigators were able to gather some clues from the scene and they brought in arson investigators to help as well.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at (847) 549-5200.
