Two canoeists rescued from Goose Lake in Barrington Hills

Two people were rescued Saturday afternoon after their canoe tipped over in a Barrington Hills lake, fire officials said.

Crews were called to Goose Lake for a reported drowning about 4:30 p.m. and found the canoeists standing in the water, according to the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District. First responders removed them from the lake and marsh, treated them, and took them to the hospital as a "precautionary measure."

A member of the fire department also was evaluated at the scene and signed a medical release, officials said.

Crews from the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District and Barrington Fire Department assisted.
