Naperville man dies after car strikes tree

A 41-year-old Naperville man died Sunday evening after the car he was driving left the road and struck a tree, police said Monday.

Police said it appears Jason Schaus was driving his 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 west on 87th Street near Modaff Road around 7:10 p.m. when the crash occurred.

Schaus was taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville, where he was pronounced dead. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Police do not yet know if a medical condition, alcohol or drugs were a factor, Cmdr. Lou Cammiso said.

Police said eastbound 87th Street between Modaff and Massachusetts Avenue was closed for roughly four hours as part of the investigation.

The intersection of 87th and Modaff has a strip mall with a gas station at its southwest corner and is just east of Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call police at (630) 420-8833.
