Girls gather at CLC to learn about science, technology careers

Girls interested in careers dealing with science, technology, engineering and math gathered Saturday in Grayslake to learn about opportunities in those fields.

The College of Lake County's seventh annual STEM for Girls event was open to girls in seventh through 12th grades, who attended workshops led by people working in those fields.

STEM for Girls is a free event designed for school groups, Scout groups, youth groups and individuals. The program seeks to motivate middle school and high school girls interested in STEM careers to become innovative and creative thinkers and to pursue careers in this area.

Presenters include CLC faculty members from a variety of academic areas plus other professional experts and teachers.

Participants can select from a variety of presentation topics, including chemistry, biology, lasers, medical imaging, robotics, nursing, math, computer aided design, astronomy, robotics and more. Each session provided hands-on, practical experiences.

A STEM for parent's session also was held, featuring topics of interest to parents with daughters interested in STEM fields.
