Thief steals $6,000 French bulldog puppy from Fox Valley mall

Aurora police are searching for a man who stole a French bulldog puppy valued at $6,000 from the Furry Babies pet store in the Fox Valley Shopping Center.

Police said the man entered the store around 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, picked up the puppy from its crib while employees were waiting on other customers, and ran away.

The employees chased him through an adjacent department store as he fled the mall through the upper level doors and then ran across New York Street to a restaurant parking lot. He got into a silver SUV and drove away.

The man is described as either white or Hispanic in his late teens to early 20s, standing about 5 feet 10 inches and weighing between 145 and 160 pounds. Employees described him as having a thin mustache and wearing a tan baseball cap, black jacket and tan khakis. The SUV he got into was possibly a Lincoln Navigator or Aviator with temporary license plates and 22-inch chrome wheel rims.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call police at (630) 256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000.
