Schaumburg police: Threats against 'SHS' a hoax

Schaumburg police said Thursday they investigated reports of a threat against an "SHS" that circulated on social media Wednesday and determined it is a hoax that traces back to Ohio and has no connection to Schaumburg High School.

Officials at Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire - another "SHS" - issued a similar statement Wednesday night.

Schaumburg police thanked students and parents who took the threat seriously and reported it to authorities.

"We continue to encourage the public to report this type of information immediately to the police department so that we can take the necessary steps to keep our community safe," police said in a written statement. "This is a great example of what our citizens should be doing: If you see something, say something."
