Police: Body found in Arlington Heights pond might have been there a month

Arlington Heights police do not suspect foul play in the death of a man found facedown in a pond off Golf Road.

Shortly before noon Wednesday, an employee of business near the pond on the 600 block of East Golf Road was on a break when he spotted what appeared to be debris in the water, Sgt. Andrew Blevins said. When he looked closer, the man saw it was a body, Blevins said.

Firefighters removed the adult male from pond, which had a thin sheet of ice, and transported him to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The body may have been in the pond for a month, police said.

Another employee of a nearby business told investigators that he had seen the yellow jacket in the water about a month ago and thought it was debris, Blevins said. The medical examiner's office is scheduled to perform an autopsy later today to determine the cause of death.

Police are not releasing the man's identification until family members can be notified.
