Bargain hunters find treasure at Arlington Heights library sale
Library patrons searching for just the right book or movie filled the Hendrickson Room at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library on Sunday for the annual Friends' Fab Feb Used Book and Media Sale.
Arlington Heights Friends of the Library sponsors the yearly sale, with proceeds going back to the library in the form of program sponsorships and for unbudgeted capital purchases.
"We have always been looking for ways to enhance the patron experience for the library," said Allison Anderson, book sale chairwoman for the Friends of the Library. "This is our first sale where we have actually sorted by category, which is a nice thing for people shopping for a specific thing."
Incorporated in 1968, the Friends of the Library has raised more than $1 million to help the library fund children's programs, adult programs and the "One Book, One Village" author visits.
Patrons carefully sifted through the large collections of books, movies and audio material hoping to find items at bargain prices.
"It's a fun thing come and find books, and it's a great feeling to support the library," Laurie Flight of Arlington Heights said as she held a large selection of books in her arms. "My favorite is to look for cookbooks and nonfiction books and I did find some."
More than 1,000 people were expected to attend the three-day event, with some coming from as far away as Indiana and Iowa.
