No one injured in car vs. Metra train crash in Glen Ellyn
No one was injured in a crash between a stopped car and an inbound commuter train near the Glen Ellyn Metra station Tuesday night.
According to a Glen Ellyn police news release, the car was driven onto the tracks by a 75-year-old woman from Willow Springs. The driver was heading south on Main Street over the tracks, but before she had completely crossed, she made a right turn and ended up on them.
No one from the Glen Ellyn Police Department was able to provide details late Tuesday night of how or why the accident happened.
According to the news release, the driver was able to exit the vehicle safely before it was struck by the Metra train. No passengers on the train reported any injuries after the crash.
Katie Dahlstrom, a Metra spokeswoman, said the train was delayed for nearly two hours while the scene was being cleared. Dahlstron said the train was operable after the crash.
At 8:58 p.m., the tracks were cleared and train traffic resumed.
