Libertyville asks residents, businesses to cut back on water

Libertyville officials are asking residents and business owners to use water only as needed due to a shutdown of the water distribution system to the village.

An alert sent Thursday afternoon said the village was notified by its supplier, the Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency, that water distribution has been shut down due to a repair on the water transmission line. The water is safe to drink during the shutdown, according to village officials.

In the case of a prolonged water shutdown, the village has three backup wells to provide water. If those are activated, residents may notice a slight change in the color, odor or taste of the water but the water still will be safe to drink.

The situation is being closely monitored and will be updated as information is received.
