Driver tries to pick up 11-year-old Naperville girl, police say

Naperville police are looking for a man who approached a young girl after school Dec. 12.

According to a police report, an 11-year-old girl got off her school bus at about 3:20 p.m. in the 2700 block of Showplace Drive; after exiting the bus, a maroon van pulled up near her. The driver asked the girl "Do you need a ride?"

"The student ran away and notified an adult, who called the police," the report reads. "The maroon van was seen turning northbound onto Route 59 from the area."

The police describe the driver as an approximately 60-year-old white man with a long black beard, who was wearing a red North Face jacket. The 2700 block of Showplace holds several restaurants and retail businesses, with a residential neighborhood on the next block.
