Free wind ensemble concert Thursday at Mundelein High

The Mundelein High School Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds will present a concert of works for wind band at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, in the Mundelein High School Auditorium.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The program will include works by Dana Wilson, Frank Ticheli, Samuel Hazo, Morten Lauridsen and John Philip Sousa.

Before the concert, at 6 p.m., Wilson will provide a "Conversation with the Composer" in the Mundelein Room. Two new works by Wilson, retired professor of Composition at Ithaca College, will receive their premiere performances at the concert: "The Banquet," a programmatic work depicting a failed attempt to assassinate George Cardinal Mundelein in 1916, and "Old Number One," Wilson's tribute to the Mundelein Fire Department's beloved first fire engine donated by Cardinal Mundelein in 1924.
