Armed robbers strike twice in Naperville

An ATM customer and a pizza delivery driver were victims of two separate armed robberies Monday night in Naperville, authorities said Tuesday.

The robberies took place an hour apart on opposite sides of town, and no one was injured in either case, police said. The robberies are believed to be unrelated.

Police said the first robbery occurred about 9 p.m. on the 1200 block of Hobson Road after a driver and his passenger used the ATM of a Chase bank at Hobson and Naper Boulevard.

A man wearing all dark clothing armed with a handgun jumped in front of the victim's vehicle and motioned for it to stop, police Cmdr. Lou Cammiso said in a news release. When the driver stopped, the robber jumped in the car using the door behind him, demanded money and ran away.

An hour later and 5 miles away, on the 3300 block of south Route 59, police received a report of another armed robbery, this one targeting a pizza delivery driver.

Police said the driver reported being approached about 10 p.m. by a man with a handgun who demanded money and then ran to a sedan of an unknown make and model. The suspect in this robbery is described as 6 feet tall and thin, wearing dark clothing.

As officers investigate, they are encouraging residents to be aware of their surroundings and report anything suspicious. Cammiso said the best way to react during an armed robbery is to comply with all demands.

"(Do) not do anything that would jeopardize your personal safety," he said in the news release.

Police are asking anyone with information about either of the Monday night robberies to contact the investigations division at (630) 420-6666.
